How it all Began...
One hot summer day, I was contemplating whether I should go outside and play or enjoy the nice refreshing cold air being pumped out by the air conditioner. It was a tough choice! Go out in 32C weather and play with my friends, or stay inside and enjoy a cool 22C?? What would you have done!? I finally decided that I would rather just stay indoors, and watch a bit of TV. I figured I will just wait till the sun starts to go down, and just go out later in the day. Well, I turned on the TV and I was flipping through the channels and I stumbled upon a poker game. I don't remember whether it was a cash game or a tournament, but I decided to watch. I seemed to be the best thing on at the time. I found it quite entertaining to watch, but I was also slightly confused: why did these guys wear glasses, hoodies, and baseball caps to cover their faces!? I mean, they were only playing a card game!? I was only 14 at the time, and hardly had any idea of what poker was (Texas Hold'em), let alone know any of the famous poker pros, or how the game was truly played for that matter. That day something inside me urged me to go to my computer, and install PartyPoker. At the time it was the world's biggest poker room and it was the room that was heavily advertised on the poker TV show I was watching. That is when my passion for poker began...
After installing PartyPoker, I knew I had to make a fake user name since I was only 14, so I did! I started playing the game a couple of hours a week, in play money of course. I also had a friend of mine that was playing for play money as well. He was playing for fun before I started playing. I remember him telling me he had something close to 3 million play chips! I found it hard to believe when he told me. Considering that PartyPoker only gives you 1000 play chips to start you off, reaching 3,000,000 was hard to grasp for me. So that is when I became motivated to try and beat my friend, I wanted to be better. I wanted to beat his 3 million by a landslide! So I started doing some research when I had a few hours on hand, and started reading tips on how to play poker profitably: you know the fundamental theory, hand ranks, that kind of stuff. After learning the game for about 3 months or so, I was moving up in stakes. I started at the small limits 2-1, 4-2, 6-3 ... until I hit the biggest stake PartyPoker had for play money 100-50. At that time I did not know much about bankroll management. I would have about 250 000 in total and 100 000 was on the table! Good thing I was not old enough for REAL MONEY at that time, or else I would have lost LOADS, just like many other players do. In about a year`s worth of casual online play I was able to reach the 20, 000, 000 mark! At that time, I thought to myself, "Damn!!!...If I could make this much in play money, I bet I could do the same with REAL money!!" I was only 15-16 at that time and I was looking forward to turning 18 from that day on!
PartyPoker had a few promotions, and at the time, they allowed PlayMoney players to join Real Money freerolls. Of course I took advantage of this! I remember the first freeroll I entered was the Cadillac Promotion freeroll. You had to qualify in round 1 then come 1st place in round 2 in order to win a Cadillac Escalade. I got really pumped up for this series. I made it through round 1, but one week later I failed round 2, and my dream of winning a Cadillac Escalade soon came to an end. I don’t remember exactly how I got busted out, but I am certain it was somewhere in the middle of the tournament. I kept my eye open for freerolls every week, at the time they were a rarity for PlayMoney players. They only had the freerolls on special occasions. They were not hosted daily, like they are now. Anyways, one day I noticed that PartyPoker had a $500 freeroll. I got really excited…this was my chance to make some FREE MONEY!! I marked down the date and time on my calendar, and I set myself up for that tournament the following weekend. I had to take care of my school work, so I tried hard to finish most of it at school, so I would have time for this poker tournament.
With over 13 000 entrants, and a $500 prize pool which only the final table
players split up…the game began. I start playing fairly tight, but I was still
an obvious rookie. At this stage I did know too much about bluffing, pot odds,
implied odds, and I had no idea about stats, and any software. I was playing
BLIND! I was playing my cards, not the player…lol. What can you do right!? At
least I was not donking around my entire stack with 44, 55, A6…that kind of
stuff. The most critical skills that I had developed at this stage in my poker
“career” were (I hate calling it that, profitable hobby is more like it):
Patience and Discipline. I waited for the big hands, because those were the
only ones I really knew how to play at the time. On top of that I avoided
marginal situations with KTs, ATs, QJ, etc…when I had to risk a big part of my
stack preflop. That day I played solid ABC poker (no bluffs…LOL) and played my
big hands accordingly. Fortunately that day I did not get many bad beats, and I
was able to grow my stack. With an almost never ending journey I managed to
make the FINAL TABLE!!! I felt like I was on top of the world that moment.
Making the final table in the biggest tournament that I have played in my
entire life, to this date!!! Even though it was a freeroll...beating a 13K+
always looks nice! I remember the tournament started at 11pm, by the time I
made the final table it was 3am. Good thing this was on a Friday, or
Saturday…because I remember sleeping in late the next morning. After about
45mins of final table play, it was down to 4 players: I was one of them. At
this stage I felt like I was playing the WSOP main event (even though I had no
idea what this was at the time). My body was pumping with adrenaline, and I was
fully alert, I wanted to take home 1st place at this stage. I
remember the outcome of that hand, as if it happened yesterday…the chip leader
at the time had something close to 20 million chips, and I had about half of
that. I don’t remember who made the preflop raise, but I am 65% sure I made the
preflop raise, and just got called preflop by the chip leader. I am holding
pocket tens right now, the pot stands roughly at 600K+. The flop comes TKJ
rainbow. The opponent checks to me. I the decided I had to make a big bet here,
as I did not want a KQ, QT of QJ to catch up to my set of tens. So I decided to
bet out the pot. The opponent thought for a few seconds and then decided to
check-raised me, betting about 3 million chips. At this stage I thought about
my opponent holding JJ, KK, Q9, or AQ …or they possibly had a 2 pair, which I
was way ahead of. My opponent holding KK and JJ was not really a possibility as
they would have re-raise preflop as they would have with AQ most likely. The
only hand I was really worried about was Q9, but at the time I thought well the
chances are slim, considering its 4 handed anyways, the opponent would do this
with two pairs as well, or maybe a semi-bluff with a hand like QJ. I decided to
make it all in for almost 10 million to try and protect my made hand, and if my
opponent had the straight, unlucky situation for me. Unfortunately my opponent
held AQo and had flopped the nuts. I did not manage to get my 4th
ten and the board did not pair and I was eliminated in 4th place,
winning $40 USD!!!
I was STOKED that time, and it felt unreal to me that I could come 4/13000+. I still find it hard to believe at times. My chance of making the final table was under 0.077% , maybe I got lucky, maybe it was destiny, or it was a bit of luck mixed with my patience and intuition, anyway that was my 1st cash I ever won playing poker. Winning that money was such a confidence booster for me, it made me think I could make it with the big boys, HAHAHA. I am competitive by nature so maybe that is why I am naturally successful at playing poker. I am not saying I am a super poker pro here. All I am saying is that if someone like me can take poker from scratch, and become a long term profitable poker player, then that means other can do it too. That means YOU! I don’t consider myself a professional in anyway, although I do know more about poker than 96% of players, I just play poker as a hobby, actually more like a super fun 2nd job, hehehe.
The funny part was that I was about 16 at the time I won this (what it seemed to me at the time) extravagant cash. I used false information on my account (under my mom’s name) and I had no way of depositing any money into PartyPoker to get my $40. My dad did not have a credit card, and my mom was (and still is) against dealing with money online. She thinks everyone scams you, its funny…the older generation is too stubborn to change sometimes, don’t you agree? Times changed, technology changed, the way we do things has changed…time to get with the program, heheheh!! Anyway I knew that the only way to claim that $40 was to wait for my 18th birthday. So, that is what I did! On my birthday I made a new account at PKR Poker, and a few weeks later I made a deposit of $25 at PartyPoker to claim my $40.
At the same time I joined PKR Poker was that I absolutely loved the graphics, and the “live” feel for the game play. I never deposited any money here. I first started playing their $5, $10 and $20 freerolls a few times a week. I remember coming 25/700 in a $5 freeroll one night, which paid me $0.03 AHAHAHAH. What a total waste of time, I know, I know… But I never wanted to be one of those people that lost money playing poker, so this was the sure way to do it. That night I took my whole bankroll to the 4c-2c cash game table, AHAHAH my $0.03 bankroll. Anyway I posted my entire 3c … and I managed to 3x up that 1 hand. After posting the 2c I think I folded, and when the Big Blind came around I quit the game, with $0.06 or $0.07. I actually developed a system. I came in with the minimum $0.01 each time I sat down, to protect my “bankroll” So what happened was 1st hand I would automatically go all in with 1 cent, if I won I would 4-7x up (depending on how many entered the pot). I would then post the Small Blind of 2c, fold if I had a bad hand, otherwise go all-in if I had 99+, AJ+, QK, KJ or QJ. If I didn’t win my $0.01 all in (my Big Blind) I would then reload for $0.01 and post “dead” SB+BB. Instead of posting $0.06 I only paid 1/6 of that if I won great, if not, I would re-load again, and get to see the next few hands for free. If I managed to make a few cents 10 cent+ I would leave the table and sit at the next one, repeating the process. This took a lot of time, and a lot of patience. But after a week I was up to $2+. I entered a $1+$0.10 10 handed STT. I was unlucky and lost... Half my hard earned bankroll was GONE!!! I was heartbroken that moment AHAHAHA. I went back to my cash game system, and I was lucky enough to come across a nice gentleman at the cash table that saw me play with $0.01. He insisted to give me $10, at the time I wasn’t sure if he was joking or not, because no one ever gave me $10 for free in my entire life!!! He was not joking, and we sat down at a cash game, and he dumped $10 to me that time! I will never forget this gesture till the day I die…Maybe he decided to give me that $10, because he somehow knew it would go a long way. I made over $800 playing casually, within a year, at PKR Poker playing cash games and tournaments. So that’s how I started my 1st bankroll…
When I deposited the $25 into PartyPoker, I knew that I needed some kind of coaching, or take part in some poker school. So I did some research and I came across Black Hat Poker coaching program. Before I got this course I was literally playing blind...I did not know that there were so many underground stuff associated with online poker, which would help me crush the competition. Take a look below at my poker statistics. All thanks to BLACK HAT POKER coaching... amazing 550%+ RETURN ON INVESTMENT in the last 120 days!!! with a 44% IN THE MONEY finish !!! That basically means I win money over 3/7 of the tournaments I play. The online MTTs are designed to payout the top 10%-15% of the players registered. If I was the average player, I would only make the money 10%-15% of the time, instead I make it ITM on an average of 37% (Shown on the 3rd picture) with an average R.O.I. of over 350%!! I am also in the top 3-4% ranked players on PartyPoker.com. This means I am better than 96% of the players that are currently playing the MTTs on the site!! When I am not in the mood to play a long 4-5 hour Multi-Table tournament I play some micro stakes cash games, mainly 10c-5c or 25c-10c stakes. Below are several screen shots of me winning FIRST PLACE at the $5K GTD. After convincing my opponent to take the deal, I walked away in 1st place. Taking home almost $1200! When you get Heads-Up, there is NO POINT to gamble for that extra cash because the tables can turn on YOU very easily, especially in this situation, where the blinds were 100K and 50K with a 2.5K ante! We were both under a 10 M-zone! In other words we were both SHORT STACKED! So I made the conservative play. Instead of having the possibility of walking away with a disappointing $775 for second place, I was able to secure $1,183! All it would have taken for my opponent to come first, was a double up! After that it could have been anyone's game! Instead I got the better part of that tournament!
I would like to thank Sergio (aka hot_cerry), who sent me the screen shot of the final table! He pocketed a nice $447 coming 3rd! Well done Sergio! We only met when there were about 100 people left in the tournament. At that time I was a medium stack with 36K while he had accumulated a stack of over 80K! Remember, the tournament winners are not always the big stacks! I had to fight my way to victory!

Here's my biggest MTT cash. It was 2 days before my winter break ended. Pretty nice heading back to classes, knowing a huge chunk of my tuition was paid off. An extra $1338 is always nice.

Here are some more screen shots of my statistics. If you took a closer look at my REGISTRATION with Black Hat Poker, you will notice that I bought the course on March 28/2008. After about 3 days of playing small stakes with my first $25 bankroll, I decided that I wanted to PROTECT my hard earned $25, and turn it into MUCH more. Average BIG STACK really is?
...This will shock some of you, so beware...
If you take a quick look at some screen shots below, you will see that I pointed out a BIG stack in green. Right to this player's left is another semi-big stack, who had disappointing statistics also. (those two are the only ones I checked out) You will be surprised to find out that these BIG stack players are, majority of the time, really poor players. Almost every single time I was moved to a new table in my MTT, I saw a decently BIG stacked player. I would just check his or her stats for curiosity. Get this, about 70% of the time, these players were utter GARBAGE!! having statistics similar to moujti's....There are a lot of bad players splashing around in these MTTs. That MTT was a $9 buy-in ($5K GTD) ...which is quite a lot of money for me! Just take a look at moujti's ranking 35,670/93,222. The R.O.I is -65%!! This player is losing money, playing an average $11 Buy-in tournament. How much money exactly? $11(buyin)x-0.65(ROI)x41(total # of tours played)= -$293.15. This player landed only 1 final table out of 41 games! Only to finish 7th place! This player is hauling an impressive 15% ITM finish...nice. There are thousands upon thousands of players like this on Partypoker.com and other poker sites! This player is new to PP, yet imagine how much they will lose after playing 250 games. I did the math, about $1800! LEARN the TACTICS to take them all OUT! Take your shot at 1st place! I came in first place not once, but THREE times in the past few months! You can do the same, the reward is overwhelming!
